Duncan Maxwell has been involved in some way in health and fitness most of his life. Growing up in the beautiful ski resort of Whistler in B.C. Canada, Duncan began downhill ski racing with world renowned duel Olympic gold medal winner Nancy Green at the age of 7. Duncan continued racing for many years and was to eventually become one of the youngest ski instructors in Canada at the ripe old age of 15.
During this period he continued to play both soccer and volleyball at a competitive level and became the Provincial under 18’s 100 and 4 x 100 meter sprint champion.
Duncan moved to Australia in 1991 and spent the next several years backpacking around the country doing odd jobs including working with a circus troupe for 18 months from 92-93. In 94 he moved to Adelaide were he started a 4 year, full time apprenticeship with Martial Arts Guru Nino Pilla. During this period Duncan competed in several different disciplines including; Tae kwon do, full contact Stick Fighting and All Styles open weight division competitions.
In ‘96 Duncan completed his fitness leaders’ certificate and went on to specialize in Personal Training, Circuit Training, Swim Coaching and Exercise Rehabilitation. From there he worked for nearly 5 years at Mitcham Perfect Fit (now Goodlife) as a circuit instructor and was responsible, for establishing personal training within the 5 Perfect Fit Centers through his business Optimum Personal Training. Duncan has become a well known and sought after fitness trainer, strength coach, martial arts instructor, lecturer, presenter and corporate health and lifestyle consultant. Duncan currently trains elite athletes, those new to the fitness world, runs S.A.'s largest female only Boot Camp and has, over the years, acted as a mentor for many personal trainers in Adelaide.
Gaynor Pope (Trainer)
Gaynor Pope decided to become a personal trainer after discovering the benefits first hand while training with her own personal trainer (Duncan) for several years. Gaynor is the perfect example of what one can accomplish with the right information, a bit of tenacity and a whole lot of hard work.
Since becoming a Master Trainer in 2003, Gaynor has gone on to specialize in many different areas of functional strength training. From sports specific core conditioning to working closely with older and special populations, Gaynor brings a broad range of skills and knowledge to the T.E.C. team.
Besides working with older clients, Gaynor is very passionate about her own training and likes to diversify her own fitness regime by training in martial arts whenever she can.
Gaynor is married to Tim and has 3 children living at home.
Belinda Mackey (Trainer)
Belinda has been active in sport from a very young age and has always taken a keen interest in nutrition. Working as a model since the young age of 13, she has tried every diet and exercise fad under the sun, which has thankfully led her to now understand the importance of a healthy body. You have nothing without your health! Being an outdoor lover, she graduated in Outdoor Recreation in 2001, before gaining a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement) at Uni SA.
Belinda also teaches Deportment and Photo-posing to people of all ages, shapes and sizes, with the intention to help people develop a positive body image. For the past 7 years she has trained under the renowned Sifu Nino Pilla in mixed martial arts, and draws upon the many Guru’s she has trained with for inspiration.
Belinda is married to David Mackey.
Terry Jeffries (Trainer)
Terry is a strength & conditioning specialist and Centrality™ certified health consultant. He is also an experienced lecturer with a passion for teaching other fitness professionals the many intricacies of training the human machine.
His experience has incorporated over 5 years as a personal trainer, sports conditioning coach and health consultant.Terry also spent 4 years employed as a course lecturer and assessor at The Australian Institute of Fitness.
In addition to being part of The Energy Clinic team, Terry is the physical performance manager for the South Adelaide Football Club within the SANFL. Here, he is responsible for all aspects of athletic conditioning.
In the 90’s, Terry was a successful junior district basketball player for the Noarlunga City Tigers and more recently played senior football (Aussie Rules) for the Happy Valley Vikings. Since early 2009, he has competed in state level powerlifting.
Terry is married to Anna and currently lives in Aberfoyle Park.
Wayne Willis (Trainer)
Wayne Willis is a strength coach, athletics coach and Centrality™ certified health consultant. He has a passion for helping people achieve beyond their own expectations. After graduating from the University of South Australia, with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science, Wayne spent time working as a fitness consultant before returning to study and becoming a successful secondary school teacher between 1999 and 2008. (Beware all those who don’t do their stretching homework ;o)
Wayne has been coaching and competing at the highest levels in national sport for over 15 years. In 1995 and 1996 he was the Athletics Australia Scholarship coach for S.A. and has since had the opportunity to be mentored by Olympic and Paralympics coaches, train along side Olympians, Commonwealth Games medallists and national champions. In three years, while coaching in Mount Gambier, his small group of athletes won 3 national medals, broke 5 state records, represented the state 12 times and won over 40 state titles. Currently his strength coaching extends to SANFL players, Div 1 Tennis Players, state champions in jumping and throwing events as well as state level sprinters.Wayne is the current and 8 time State Champion in Mens Open Shot Put. He continues to compete both nationally and internationally in this event. Wayne has recently begun competing in Strongman events, finishing 3rd at his first state titles in early 2010.
Presently,Wayne is applying his coaching skills, in a slightly modified manner, to help those with little or no sporting background, reach their health and fitness potential.
